The USGBC (United States Green Building Council) is a nonprofit organization that has developed the LEED Green Building Rating SystemTM. LEED® (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) is a voluntary standard that defines high performance green buildings- which are healthier, more environmentally responsible, and more profitable buildings. For more information visit www.usgbc.org.
KFI applied for and was chosen to participate in the LEED for Existing Buildings (LEED-EB) pilot program. The LEED-EB pilot rating system was used as a guideline for incorporating innovative sustainable design practices, as well as energy performance tracking systems into KFI’s existing corporate headquarters in Roseville, Minnesota. In November of 2004, KFI achieved a LEED-EB Gold certification for its headquarters- the first ‘Gold’ certified building in Minnesota.
